About the trip
Etruscan civilization was thriving many centuries ago in what we call Tuscany and Umbria today. Italian Renaissance, architecture, painting, sculpture came from these lands. Who did not hear about one of the oldest galleries in Europe - Uffizi? Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were born here and made this region famous. And what about some of the most famous Italian wines: Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano and Chianti are also made here. And these lands are known for some of the most spectacular landscapes. What photographer does not dream of capturing the mist over the vineyards, or the sun setting behind the cypresses?
All this is Tuscany.
And further south lies the equally famous Italian region - Umbria. In Umbria, try stuffed artichokes Alla Perugino, explore monuments of architecture, wander through the streets of small medieval cities.
We invite you to visit these two Italian regions in one trip.
The program
Day 1
Early departure at 5 am from Lviv. We are driving towards the Czech Republic. Overnight in Brno in a hotel.
Day 2
Leaving at 8 am from Brno. In the evening we are settling in a private villa or apartment in Tuscany. The next few nights we stay in one place, and travel to different places for day trips.
Day 3
All day in Siena, a city with a long history, famous for its medieval art school, architects, sculptors and the university, which is one of the oldest in Italy.
Day 4
Three jewels of Tuscany: San Gimignano, Radda in Chianti and Valpaya, are awaiting us today.
San Gimignano is called the city of medieval skyscrapers, thanks to the high towers that were built by wealthy families in the 11-13 centuries.
Radda-in-Chianti and Valpaya are so small that they can be walked around in half an hour, but you can wander all night their quiet streets with a camera looking for a perfect shot.
Day 5
On this day, we will visit Greve in Chianti, Montefiore and Castellina in Chianti.
In Greve in Chianti, we will try famous Tuscan wines, take a look at the Antica Macelleria Falorni butcher shop, and those who are interested can try balsamic vinegar of 5, 10 and 20 years of aging.
Montefiorele, which translates as “flower mountain” from Italian, a small town first mentioned in the 11th century, it originated around the old castle.
Castellina in Chianti is a cute little town with the famous covered walkway Via del Volta and the Cathedral of San Salvatore.
Day 6
In the morning we will visit Montalcino, and a little later we hike along the hills of Torrenieri. Here you will be able to photograph the visiting card of the Val d'Orcia - the famous cypress grove (photo 1), and many more beautiful landscapes. In the evening, wander through the quiet streets of San Quirico d'Orcia.
Day 7
Today we first have a visit to a small but very beautiful city, which has become known thanks to Pope Pius II - this is Pienza. Here you should definitely try ravioli with cheese. Pienza is known for its sheep milk cheese, pecorino. A little while later, drove into one of the wineries Fatoria Pulcino and, after tasting excellent local wines, walk along the streets of Montepulciano.
Day 8
All day in Perugia (Umbria).
Day 9
Assisi, Spello and Spoleto - these three small towns personify as well as possible Umbria.
They say that Assisi (Latin Assisium) is the birthplace of St. Francis, and it was here that he built the first monastery of his order.
Spello - the city is surrounded by old fortress walls, narrow streets, many flowers. Spoletto, don't forget to take a look at the old Roman theater, the Romanesque Cathedral of the Duomo or the fortress of Albornoziana.
